How do you select the best logistics school
Some schools have designed programs for warehouse workers due to the growing demand for education that is specifically on logistics. Kathleen Hedland is the director of education and research for the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. She says that employers want their employees to understand how their actions influence their customers, as well as how their actions in one department can affect other areas of work.
There are a myriad of degrees available, but all include foundation courses covering the basics of supply chain management and operations procurement and transportation networks, inventory management and warehouses. Some universities also offer specializations, including e-commerce and retail logistics, logistics and transportation analysis and global logistics management and more.
Graduates can be employed in roles such as supply chain managers, logisticians, purchasing agents industrial production managers and distribution managers. They can also seek certifications like the Certified Supply Chain Manager or the Certified Public Contract Manager to improve their career prospects.
In addition to the courses offered, consider whether a university is accredited by a body like the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, which recognizes 8,200 institutions and 44,000 programs. Also, you should look for a university that has a sufficient student-to-teacher ratio, which will help ensure you receive quality instruction.
Some colleges offer hybrid or online programs, which provide classroom instruction in conjunction with online learning opportunities. This type of program may appeal to those who prefer an affluent schedule or aren’t able to take classes in a traditional manner. Some online-only classes offer associate’s degrees or certificates while other programs offer master’s and bachelor’s degrees.
